Kannywood Actress Wasila Isma'il Dies at 46 in Kaduna

Wasila Isma'il, a veteran Kannywood actress, died at the age of 46 in Kaduna following a prolonged illness, as confirmed by her former husband through a social media post. She gained recognition in the late 1990s when Kannywood was establishing itself as a formal industry, having emerged in 1990 in Kano.

Wasila entered the film industry in 1998 and quickly became a household name among northern Nigerian audiences. Her debut film was "Jinin Masoya," and she gained further acclaim with the 1999 film "Jamila," which was initially titled "Wasila." Throughout her career, she was associated with the Nigerian Film Corporation and was known for her roles in various films.

In addition to her acting career, Wasila also worked in broadcasting at Liberty Radio Kaduna, making her a familiar presence on screens in northern Nigeria. Ali Nuhu, her co-star, expressed his condolences on Facebook, acknowledging her surviving family.
