Nigeria's NDP 2026-2030: Prioritize Census and Security

Dr. Izu, a lecturer in the Department of Political Science at Nile University, urged the Nigerian government to prioritize the national census and security in the National Development Plan (NDP) for 2026-2030.

He lamented the abandonment of 56,000 projects nationwide, valued at approximately N17 trillion, due to political instability, corruption, and mismanagement. The NDP, set to be unveiled by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on February 10, 2026, aims to redefine Nigeria's development trajectory.

Dr. Izu stressed the need for a comprehensive dialogue to address the gaps in previous development plans and to encourage private sector participation to strengthen the economy.

He highlighted the importance of focusing on key sectors such as infrastructure, agriculture, and energy to drive growth and create jobs, while also addressing the need for tax reforms and efficient fund utilization to achieve a GDP growth target of 3.98% by Q3 2025.
