Patience Okon George Chooses Athletics Over Football

Patience Okon George, a 34-year-old Nigerian athlete and multiple-time African champion, revealed in an interview that choosing athletics over football was the greatest decision of her life. Initially, she dreamed of a football career, but her passion for athletics grew stronger under the guidance of her coach, Ogunik, who gave her an ultimatum to choose between the two sports.

After a period of reflection and encouragement from her father, she returned to athletics, which she credits for transforming her life. Okon George has since established herself as one of Nigeria's top 400m runners, winning numerous medals, including silver at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and gold at the 2018 Gold Coast Games.

She has also excelled in relay events, securing multiple gold medals at the African Games and contributing to Nigeria's success in various international competitions. Her career has been marked by consistent performance since 2013, and she expresses gratitude to her coach for redirecting her path.
