Atiku Abubakar Proposes Fuel Subsidy Restoration Plan

Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice-President of Nigeria and presidential candidate for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), announced his proposal to restore fuel subsidy, clarifying that it is intended to support locally refined fuel rather than subsidizing imported petrol. He articulated this position in a series of posts on his 𝕏 account, responding to a follower's comment.

Atiku emphasized that his policy aims to bolster domestic refineries, increase local production, and ultimately lower petrol prices for Nigerians. He differentiated his proposed production subsidy from the previous import subsidy by likening it to supporting local manufacturers, using the example of shoemakers in Aba.

Atiku stated that cheaper fuel would not only benefit motorists but also reduce transportation and operating costs for businesses, thereby making everyday life more affordable for Nigerians. He expressed a desire for lower transport fares and reduced costs for moving agricultural produce, ultimately aiming to leave households with more disposable income.
