Peter Obi Joins Nigeria Democratic Congress Ahead of 2025

Victor Umeh, a senator representing Anambra Central, provided reasons for Peter Obi's recent defection from the African Democratic Party (ADC) to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC). Umeh indicated that Obi's departure was influenced by the ADC's lack of structure and support, which he described as a coalition formed hastily without proper political assessment.

Umeh emphasized that Obi, known for his financial discipline and principled political style, did not leave due to difficulties in securing a presidential ticket but rather to avoid transactional politics. Obi's move to the NDC, alongside former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, is seen as a strategic effort to create a more stable political alliance in preparation for the upcoming 2025 elections.

Umeh expressed hope that the new coalition would gradually stabilize and produce credible consensus candidates, distinguishing between genuine candidates and opportunists.
