Senate Leader Attributes Ogun West's 50-Year Governorship Drought to Political Fragmentation

Nigerian Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, in a lecture titled "Power, Internal Cohesion, Security, and External Support: A Roadmap to Achieving Ogun West Gubernatorial Ambition by 2027" highlighted the reasons behind Ogun West's failure to produce a governor in 50 years since the creation of Ogun State in 1976. Bamidele described the district's exclusion from political power due to structural issues and internal fragmentation.

He emphasized the need for unity within Ogun West to garner wider political support and unlock its economic potential, especially citing industrial hubs like Ota and Agbara. Bamidele identified Senator Solomon Adeola Yayi as a key figure capable of leading Ogun West to break the 50-year jinx.

The event also saw the endorsement of President Bola Tinubu for a second term in 2027 and the gubernatorial ambition of Dr. Iziak Salako.

The focus remains on mobilizing support and achieving consensus within the district to secure the governorship in 2027.
