Rising Cement Prices in Nigeria: Causes and Impact

The price of cement across Nigeria has seen a significant increase, attributed to rising logistics and distribution costs. Dealers in Abuja reported that the price for a 50kg bag of Dangote Cement rose from ₦9,000 in December 2025 to ₦10,000 in January 2026, reaching as high as ₦11,500 in some areas.

Retailers accuse middlemen of imposing arbitrary markups, exacerbating the situation. Ikechukwu Anthoni, a cement seller, and Ibrahim Ojo, another dealer, highlighted the role of middlemen in the price hikes.

In Kano, the price for cement ranges from ₦10,800 to ₦10,900 depending on the brand, with concerns that further increases in block prices are inevitable. Alhaji Nasiru Awwalu Mustapha, a dealer, expressed worries about the frequent price adjustments affecting demand.

The situation has created uncertainty in the market, with BUA Cement and Dangote Cement prices varying across different states, including Kaduna and Jigawa.
