EFCC Freezes Osun State Government Accounts Amid Probe

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has frozen the bank accounts of the Osun State Government as part of an ongoing investigation into suspected financial misconduct. This investigation, which began in March 2026, focuses on the alleged fraudulent management of Ecology Funds, Intervention Funds, and allocations from the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC), totaling around N11 billion.

The EFCC stated that several state officials, including the Accountant General, have been questioned during the investigation. The decision to impose a Post No Debit order on the state’s accounts was prompted by the discovery of suspicious transfers of large sums of money into various corporate accounts starting on August 2, 2026.

The EFCC emphasized that this action is necessary to safeguard public funds and prevent the alleged looting of government resources. Despite the upcoming governorship election in Osun State, the EFCC asserted its commitment to fulfilling its legal responsibilities without bias.
