Osun State to Sue EFCC Over Frozen Government Accounts

On Wednesday, Osun State's Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Oluwole Jimi-Bada, stated he has the mandate of Governor Ademola Adeleke to sue the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) following the freezing of government accounts. The EFCC issued a 'Post no debit' letter to First Bank, where the accounts are held.

Jimi-Bada expressed concern that this action could hinder government operations and emphasized that the governor is not using state funds for his reelection campaign. He indicated readiness to challenge the EFCC's decision in the Federal High Court, asserting that the agency cannot freeze accounts without a court order.

Osun State Commissioner for Finance, Sola Ogungbile, supported Jimi-Bada's claims, alleging police operatives had arrested bank staff during the EFCC's actions. Governor Adeleke previously warned that the EFCC's plans to freeze all state accounts could paralyze government activities ahead of the August 15th governorship election, declaring the actions as lawless and lacking legal justification.
