The university's public relations officer, Abiodun Olarewaju, stated that the decision was made due to the short notice provided by the event organizers, which made it impossible to arrange necessary security and logistics for hosting a high-profile individual.

The university emphasized that this decision was taken in the interest of safety and adherence to established protocols, and it does not reflect any disregard for Obi's status as a former governor of Anambra State. This incident is noted to be part of a pattern, as similar cancellations have occurred ten times previously.
