NUT: Borno Schools to Remain Open Amid Insecurity

The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), represented by Comrade Yusuf Tom, the state chairman, has declared that schools in Borno State will not be shut down despite the increasing insecurity in the region. In an exclusive interview, Tom stated that closing schools would embolden insurgents and that the union is committed to keeping educational institutions operational.

He mentioned that teachers will continue to educate students as part of the effort to defeat terrorism. The NUT plans to hold nationwide protests to demand the urgent release of abducted students and teachers, with a rally scheduled for May 29, 2026, as directed by the national leadership of the union.

The protests aim to draw attention to the worsening security situation affecting education, with solidarity rallies planned across all 36 state capitals, including Oyo State.
