NUT Rejects School Closures in Borno Amid Insecurity

The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has addressed concerns regarding the potential closure of schools in Borno State due to increasing insecurity. Comrade Yusuf Tom, speaking on behalf of the Borno State chairman Comrade Zali Garba, clarified that the union remains committed to ensuring that teaching and learning continue despite the challenges posed by insecurity.

Tom dismissed reports suggesting that the NUT supports school closures, stating that education must persist. He emphasized that the focus should be on improving security around educational institutions to allow students and teachers to carry out their activities without fear.

Additionally, the union plans to organize nationwide protests to draw attention to the plight of students and teachers who have become victims of insecurity in various parts of the country. The NUT advocates for the unconditional release of abducted children and urges the government to intensify efforts to protect the rights of students and educators.
