Zimbabwean Tycoon Wicknell Chivayo Dies in Helicopter Crash

Wicknell Chivayo, a Zimbabwean businessman, died in a helicopter crash on September 30, 2026, in Marondera rural, which also claimed the life of his wife, Lucy Muteke, and four other individuals. The Republic Police confirmed the incident occurred on a Wednesday evening, with initial responders arriving at the scene.

Chivayo, 42, had established significant political relationships across Africa, notably with Zimbabwe's President Emmerson Mnangagwa, with whom he was frequently photographed. His connections extended to Kenya, where he engaged with President William Ruto, and to Tanzania, where he met President Samia Suluhu Hassan.

In Uganda, he discussed investment opportunities with President Yoweri Museveni. Chivayo also received a diplomatic passport from Eswatini's King Mswati III.

His career was marked by scrutiny regarding his government-linked business dealings, which critics argued raised concerns about political influence. Chivayo consistently denied any wrongdoing, while supporters viewed him as a philanthropist.
