Wike’s FCTA Demolishes Over 1,000 Shanties in Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) led by Minister Nyesom Wike demolished over 1,000 shanties in Abuja, citing that they were illegal structures obstructing road corridors in Karsana bordering Bunkoro District Gwarimpa. The Director of Development Control, Muktar Galadima, mentioned that the operation targeted squatters and people of questionable character residing in the area, with a focus on clearing the road stretch completely.

The FCTA also conducted a Citywide Sanitation Operation with a joint task force to continue clearance activities in collaboration with the Department of Resettlement to identify genuine property belonging to indigenous inhabitants. The Directorate of Road Transport Services (DRTS) of the FCTA also reported demolishing shops and taxi ranks across Abuja, starting from Area 3 Banex Junction Taxi Ranks.

The directive for the demolition was based on a request from the Nigerian Air Force to make way for the presidential fleet.
