Nyesom Wike, serving as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, launched the Rainbow Coalition—a multi-party political platform designed to build grassroots momentum for President Bola Tinubu's 2027 presidential ambitions. The initiative has created significant friction among governors from the ruling All Progressives Congress, who harbour serious misgivings about its structure and potential fallout.

Within APC leadership ranks, an emerging view treats Wike less as an asset and more as a potential liability to Tinubu's path toward re-election. According to party insiders, multiple governors and senior figures have started exploring alternative presidential options.

These governors worry that the cross-party platform threatens party unity and risks fragmenting APC electoral machinery or confusing voters about their partisan loyalties.
