El-Rufai to File No-Case Submission in Wiretapping Trial

Nasir El-Rufai, the former Governor of Kaduna State, is preparing to file a no-case submission in response to the charges brought against him by the Department of State Services (DSS). The DSS has closed its case in the Federal High Court in Abuja, where El-Rufai faces five amended charges related to the unlawful interception of communications and breaches of national security.

The allegations stem from a live interview on Arise Television in February, during which El-Rufai allegedly discussed a plan involving security operations and the arrest of an official from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ribadu. The DSS's counsel, Oluwol Aladedoy, informed the court that no further witnesses would be called, prompting the formal closure of the case.

El-Rufai's lawyer, Paul Erokoro, SAN, argued that the prosecution failed to establish sufficient evidence to warrant a defense. The court has adjourned the matter until September 22 for the filing of the no-case submission.
