NANS Appeals to Tinubu for Release of Osun LG Funds

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), specifically the Southwest Zone D, has addressed an open letter to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, requesting his immediate intervention regarding the withholding of statutory allocations for the 30 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Osun State. The letter, signed by NANS Southwest Zone D Coordinator Comrade Adeyemo Josiah Kayode, highlights that over N200 billion in allocations has been withheld as of mid-2026, causing significant operational and developmental challenges for local councils.

NANS asserts that this financial situation adversely affects student welfare, as local governments are crucial for services like roads, sanitation, healthcare, and security that students rely on. With the Osun State governorship election concluded on August 15, NANS urges the prioritization of governance over political considerations.

The association calls on President Tinubu to instruct relevant federal bodies, including the Ministry of Finance and the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), to resolve any legal barriers to the release of these funds. NANS also emphasizes the need for accountability from local government administrators once the funds are disbursed.
