Woman Granted Bail After Alleged Defamation of Actress Lizzy Anjorin on Facebook

Kofoworola Akanji, a woman accused of defaming Nollywood actress Lizzy Anjorin on Facebook, was granted bail by the Tinubu Magistrate Court in Lagos Island. The allegations included spreading fake news and defamation, with the prosecution claiming she conspired with an unnamed blogger to commit the offense.

Akanji was charged under Sections 39, 57, and 150 of the Lagos State Criminal Law 2015. Despite pleading guilty, her counsel argued that the offense was bailable, leading to the magistrate granting her bail with two sureties and a specified amount.

The trial is set to commence on August 21, 2025. The case highlights the legal consequences of spreading defamatory content on social media platforms.
