Women Affairs Ministry Demands Justice for Ozoro Assaults

The Federal Ministry of Women Affairs, led by Jonathan Ez, issued a strong condemnation of reported cases of sexual violence and harassment against women during a local festival in Ozoro, Isoko North Local Government Area, Delta State. In a statement released on Friday, the ministry described the incidents as disturbing and unacceptable, highlighting that such acts are gross violations of human dignity and the law.

The ministry emphasized that no cultural or traditional practice can justify sexual violence, referencing Nigeria's laws, including the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act, which clearly criminalizes such acts. The ministry stressed the importance of a thorough investigation to ensure that perpetrators are brought to justice.

It reaffirmed the federal government's commitment under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda to protect the dignity and safety of women and girls. The ministry commended the Delta State Police Command, led by Commissioner of Police Aina Adesola, for its prompt response and called for transparency in the investigation.

Additionally, the ministry announced plans to engage traditional rulers and community leaders to address harmful cultural practices and promote respect and safety.
