Delta State Condemns Assaults on Women at Ozoro Festival

The Delta State government condemned the reported sexual assaults on women during the Ozoro festival, describing the acts as "barbaric" and unacceptable. In a statement issued on Friday, the Commissioner for Information, Charl Aniagwu, urged security agencies to investigate the incidents and ensure that justice is served.

He emphasized that no individual or group should be allowed to hide behind the festival to perpetrate criminal activities. The government reiterated its commitment to protecting the rights and safety of citizens, particularly vulnerable groups such as women.

Aniagwu also called on community leaders and cultural festival organizers across the state to implement adequate security measures to safeguard participants and prevent recurrence. The Delta State Police Command spokesperson, Bright Edaf, expressed alarm and disgust at the incidents and confirmed that an investigation had commenced, although no arrests had been made at the time of the report.

The government warned that anyone found culpable would face the full weight of the law.
