World Bank and WTO Urge Strengthening Food Security

The World Bank, World Trade Organization (WTO), International Monetary Fund (IMF), and International Energy Agency (IEA) issued a joint statement urging governments and the international community to strengthen food and energy security. This call to action was made during a meeting of the High-Level Coordinating Group established in April.

The meeting addressed the vulnerabilities of countries affected by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, highlighting the need for coordinated support to aid economic recovery and protect jobs and livelihoods. The statement noted that the global economy is facing resilience challenges due to the conflict, with uneven impacts on energy supply and food security across various regions.

It stressed the importance of improving port infrastructure and trade facilitation to enhance resilience against future shocks. The organizations committed to closely monitoring energy trade and economic developments and adapting support as countries' situations evolve.
