Foundation Appeals for Government Support on Sickle Cell Care

On World Sickle Cell Day, Mr. Dotun Oladipupo, founder of the Oladipupo Foundation, called on the Nigerian government to subsidize the cost of stem cell transplants for patients suffering from sickle cell disease.

The appeal was made during a sensitization walk held on Friday in Abeokuta, which aimed to raise awareness about the challenges faced by individuals living with sickle cell disorder. Oladipupo emphasized that many families cannot afford the expensive procedures and highlighted the potential of stem cell transplants to significantly improve the quality of life for these patients.

He urged the government to partner with donor agencies to make these medical interventions more accessible. The event also served as a reminder that sickle cell disorder should not be viewed as a death sentence, and he encouraged parents and caregivers to provide necessary support to affected individuals.

The walk was organized to symbolize the collective effort to bring attention to the plight of those living with sickle cell disorder.
