King Oyo of Tooro Kingdom Dies at 34 in the US

King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV of Uganda’s Tooro Kingdom passed away at the age of 34 on August 27, 2023, while receiving medical treatment in the United States. The Tooro Kingdom announced that the cause of death has not been disclosed.

Oyo ascended to the throne in 1995 at the age of three, following the death of his father, Rukirabasaija Patrick David Matthew Kaboyo Olimi III. Due to his young age, a regency was established to manage the kingdom until he turned 18 in 2010, when he began fulfilling his royal duties.

The Tooro Prime Minister, Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire Akiiki, described Oyo's death as an “immeasurable loss” and confirmed that the royal institution would continue, with a Prince expected to succeed him. Oyo was not married, but the succession plan remains intact according to Tooro customs.

He was known for his advocacy in youth empowerment, education, environmental conservation, and HIV/AIDS awareness, and he also supported football development in Tooro.
