Nigeria's Ranching Reform: Economic and Security Benefits

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu recently reaffirmed his administration's commitment to a comprehensive ranching reform during a National Economic Council (NEC) conference held in Abuja. He emphasized that reforming Nigeria's livestock sector is not merely an option but an imperative for economic revitalization and national security.

The initiative includes investments in dairy farming and ranch development as part of a broader economic transformation agenda. Vice President Kashim Shettima has been tasked with developing a comprehensive roadmap to overhaul Nigeria's livestock industry.

The federal government has selected Kwara State as a pilot for the national ranch policy aimed at modernizing the livestock sector and curbing farmer-herder conflicts. The ranching reform is expected to enhance productivity, improve the quality of livestock products, and strengthen food security while fostering economic interdependence between crop farmers and livestock owners.

Additionally, the initiative is projected to create jobs and stimulate rural industrialization.
