Oshiomhole Calls for Revocation of MTN, DSTV Licenses

Adam Oshiomhole, the Senator representing Edo North, has urged the Nigerian government to revoke the operating licenses of South African companies MTN and DSTV in response to renewed xenophobic attacks against Nigerians in South Africa. During a session in the House of Representatives, Oshiomhole emphasized the need for immediate diplomatic measures to protect Nigerian citizens abroad.

He argued that the revenue generated by these companies in Nigeria is significant, and their continued operation amidst hostility towards Nigerians is unacceptable. Oshiomhole linked the current tensions to broader political dynamics in South Africa, where anti-immigrant sentiments are prevalent.

He called for the Nigerian government to adopt a strong diplomatic stance and consider local firms to replace these South African companies. Senator Victor Umeh, representing Anambra Central, expressed concern for the safety of Nigerians in South Africa and suggested that the African Union should intervene and impose sanctions against South Africa to prevent further attacks.
