Lamin Yamal, an 18-year-old attacker for FC Barcelona, has made headlines by winning his second Laureus Award, thus equaling Lionel Messi's record of Laureus wins. The award ceremony took place in Madrid, where Yamal was honored with the 2025 Breakthrough Sportsperson Award.

He is recognized as the first-ever Young Sportsperson of the Year. During his acceptance speech, Yamal expressed gratitude towards his family, teammates, and coach for their support, and he acknowledged Lionel Messi as a significant inspiration, referring to him as the best player in history.

Notably, Messi has won the Laureus World Sportsman of the Year award twice, in 2020 and 2023. Yamal's impressive performance on the field, contributing 15 goals and 11 assists, has been a key factor in Barcelona's success.

He also recently won the Kopa Trophy, becoming the youngest player to score 20 goals in the UEFA Champions League.
