Yiaga Africa Reports Voter Uncertainty for 2027 Elections
A survey conducted by Yiaga Africa revealed that nearly half of Nigeria's registered voters remain undecided about their choice for the 2027 presidential election. The poll, which included 2,470 respondents from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, found that 84% of participants expressed a likelihood to vote, but only 41% had committed to a candidate.
Additionally, 44% of eligible voters were undecided. The survey indicated a high voter registration rate, with 96% of adults confirming they are registered.
However, confidence in the electoral process is low, as only 34% believe the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will conduct credible elections. Safiya Bichi, head of knowledge management and learning at Yiaga Africa, stated that fear, distrust, and financial issues hinder voter participation.
The survey also highlighted that 54% of voters disapprove of President Bola Tinubu's performance, who is seeking re-election under the All Progressives Congress, facing competition from Peter Obi of the Nigeria Democratic Congress and another candidate from the African Democratic Congress.
