Yobe APC Aspirants Demand Direct Primaries Over Consensus

Aspirants for the Yobe State governorship under the All Progressives Congress (APC) have expressed their discontent with the party's consensus candidate, Baba Malam Wali, for the upcoming 2027 elections. The group, which includes former Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency, Mustapha Maihaja, and ex-lawmaker Bashir Machina, contends that the consensus arrangement was improperly handled and did not adhere to the stipulated electoral processes.

They argue that this attempt to impose a candidate violates the provisions of the Electoral Act and the APC constitution. The aspirants, represented by Kashim Musa Tumsah, demand direct primaries to ensure a democratic selection process, allowing party members to freely vote for their preferred candidates.

They have warned that they will challenge the outcome if the party leadership fails to comply with electoral regulations. However, they pledged to support any candidate emerging from a credible and fair primary election process.
