Yobe APC G-6 Backs Direct Primaries After Shettima Meeting

The Yobe APC G-6 group has reaffirmed its commitment to direct primaries for the upcoming gubernatorial election scheduled for May 23, 2026, following a meeting with Vice President Kashim Shettima. The group, which includes notable members such as Senator Ibrahim Muhammed Bomai and Engr. Mustapha Yunusa Maihaja, issued a statement on Tuesday highlighting the productive nature of their discussions with Shettima aimed at resolving disagreements surrounding the APC governorship race.

They commended Shettima for his dedication to democratic values and stability in Yobe State. The G-6 group unanimously resolved to fully participate in the primaries in accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2026 and APC guidelines.

Additionally, they announced the voluntary withdrawal of Alhaji Lawan Kolo Geidam from the gubernatorial race for the overall interest of peace and unity, pledging support for the candidate who emerges from a transparent and credible primary election process.
