Tinubu: Nigerians Must Pay Taxes for Development

During the Africa CEO Forum in Kigali, Rwanda, President Bola Tinubu asserted that Nigerians must pay taxes to demand development, highlighting the need for infrastructure and public services. He pointed out that many citizens desire better healthcare and roads but are reluctant to contribute through taxes.

Tinubu mentioned the economic challenges Nigeria faces, including the fact that 36 states are struggling, with 27 unable to pay workers' salaries. He defended the economic reforms introduced earlier in his administration, describing them as difficult but necessary to prevent Nigeria from continuing to spend its future endowments.

Tinubu urged citizens to prioritize tax payments, stating that both corporate and individual taxpayers are essential for funding development. He acknowledged the public's resistance to reforms but emphasized the importance of making tough decisions for the country's future, including addressing issues like subsidy removal and economic recalibration.
