Anambra Government Demands Apology from Peter Obi Over Debts

The Anambra State Government has challenged Peter Obi, the Nigeria Democratic Congress presidential candidate, to issue an unreserved apology to the state's citizens following the revelation of outstanding loans and liabilities from his time as Governor. The Commissioner for Information and Value Reorientation, Mefor, stated that Obi's administration left debts amounting to $123,771,179.30, which were not included in his handover notes.

Mefor asserted that these loan records, including specific dates and amounts, can be verified through the Debt Management Office in Abuja. He described the situation as leaving "humongous net liabilities" instead of net assets.

The current administration has been servicing these debts through monthly deductions from the state's allocations. Mefor emphasized that Obi's challenge to prove the existence of these debts has been met with evidence, and he urged Obi to take responsibility for his actions and apologize to the people of Anambra State and Nigeria.
