Kwankwaso Criticizes INEC Over Single Candidacy Rule

Rabiu Kwankwaso, a former governor of Kano State, publicly criticized the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its stance on single candidacy in the upcoming 2027 elections. He emphasized that INEC has no right to impose such a restriction, insisting that Nigerians should have the freedom to choose their leaders without limitations based on political party affiliations.

Kwankwaso's remarks were made during a post-verification handling session on Thursday. Additionally, Salihu Yakasai, a former aide to ex-governor Abdullahi Ganduje, commented on the political climate in Kano State, noting that the All Progressives Congress (APC), including President Bola Tinubu, is feeling jittery about Kwankwaso's potential defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Yakasai highlighted that recent political meetings have suggested that Kwankwaso's possible move is unsettling various political actors in the state, including Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
