LASU Wins Cavista Hackathon 2026 with ₦2 Million Prize

Lagos State University (LASU) emerged as the winner of the fourth Cavista Hackathon 2026, which focused on using data to prevent health issues, and was awarded a cash prize of ₦2 million. The hackathon aimed to nurture young Nigerian innovators, with other teams such as Mannalon and Nibbl from Pan Atlantic University securing second and third places, respectively, receiving ₦1 million and ₦500,000.

Five award categories were presented, including the Dream Team Award and Best Implementation Award. Mr.

Oyebola Morakinyo, General Manager of Cavista Technologies, emphasized that artificial intelligence (AI) will enhance rather than replace software engineers, focusing on developing advanced competencies. He highlighted the importance of mentorship and practical tools for students, aiming to strengthen Nigeria's technological ecosystem and address brain drain in the tech sector.

The initiative has been running for four years, with a focus on preparing students for corporate environments and enhancing their global competitiveness.
