Tinubu Campaign Council Critiques Peter Obi's Governance

The Presidential Campaign Council of President Bola Tinubu, in preparation for the 2027 general election, criticized Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, for his record as Governor of Anambra State. Dele Alake, the council’s spokesperson, stated that Obi's tenure was poorly managed, despite claims of exceptional fiscal prudence and leaving the state without a debt burden.

Alake asserted that these claims were false, as revealed by disclosures from the Anambra State Government. The government reported that Obi spent about USD 4.05 billion (N5.4 trillion) during his eight years in office and contracted USD 123.77 million in external loans.

It was also noted that at the time Obi left office on March 17, 2014, there were eight external borrowings for various projects, and subsequent administrations, including that of Governor Chukwuma Soludo, continued to service these debts.
