Zambia Coach Warns Super Falcons Ahead of 2026 WAFCON Clash

Zambia's head coach, Nora Hauptl, has challenged her players to rise to the daunting task of beating the Super Falcons of Nigeria in the 2026 WAFCON tournament. The Copper Queens have drawn a competitive group alongside Nigeria, Egypt, and Malawi, setting the stage for a growing rivalry between the two African women's teams.

Nigeria, the defending champions and record ten-time winners, have historically dominated the tournament. Hauptl highlighted the tactical diversity Zambia will face in the group stage, emphasizing that their focus extends beyond just Nigeria.

The Super Falcons previously defeated Zambia 5-0 in a recent quarter-final match, showcasing their strength. Zambia, however, has proven their ability to compete, securing a notable 1-0 victory over Nigeria in the third-place playoff of the 2022 tournament.

The upcoming WAFU Championship in Abidjan will further prepare Nigeria for the competition. Both teams are gearing up for the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup qualification, with high stakes on the line.
