Zamfara Launches Ramadan Polio Immunisation Campaign

On a recent Saturday, Zamfara State officially launched its Ramadan Polio Immunisation Campaign at the Primary Health Centre in Kwata, Gusau. The campaign, led by Nafisa Muhammad Maradun, aims to vaccinate 1.3 million children under five years old across the state.

A total of 1,997 vaccination teams will be deployed for house-to-house outreach and fixed post immunisation. The campaign will administer the novel oral polio vaccine (NOPV) and provide sugar packs to support the vaccination efforts.

Dauda Lawal, the state commissioner for health, reaffirmed the government's commitment to improving child health and strengthening primary healthcare services despite challenges such as insecurity and malnutrition. Husaini Yakubu Anka, the executive secretary of the Zamfara State Primary Health Care Board, appealed to parents to ensure their eligible children receive the vaccine.

The campaign is part of a broader initiative to address recent polio outbreaks in Kebbi, Sokoto, and Zamfara, in collaboration with the World Health Organization and other health agencies.
