Zamfara Police Arrest Umar Gandi for Threatening Christians

The Zamfara State Police Command arrested Umar Ibrahim Gandi Maradun for his involvement in a viral video where he was seen in the uniform of Jama’atu Izalatil Bidi’a Wa’ikamatus Sunnah (JIBWIS) chanting, “Give us rifles to go and kill Christians.” Commissioner of Police A.M. Bello announced the arrest during a press briefing in Gusau.
The video, recorded on October 23, 2026, featured Maradun with pupils from two Islamiyya schools in Maradun Local Government Area. The Christian Association of Nigeria, led by President Daniel Okoh, has demanded an urgent investigation into the video, which they consider a serious threat.
The police engaged with JIBWIS, which disassociated itself from Maradun's actions. He was apprehended by JIBWIS and handed over to the police.
Maradun, born on September 15, 2004, joined JIBWIS in 2025 and was recently admitted to study Mass Communication at Zamfara State University. He will face charges of incitement to violence and other offenses under the Penal Code Law applicable in Zamfara State.
