Zamfara Police Arrest Man for Inciting Violence Against Christians

The Zamfara State Police Command arrested 22-year-old Umar Ibrahim Gandi Maradun after he appeared in a viral video allegedly calling for the killing of Christians while wearing the uniform of Jama’atu Izalatil Bidi’a Wa’ikamatus Sunnah (JIBWIS). The arrest occurred on Tuesday, following a press briefing by Commissioner of Police, CP A.M Bello, at the command headquarters in Gusau.
The video, recorded on October 23, 2026, showed Maradun with pupils from two Islamic schools in Maradun local government area. He was reportedly heading to Aliyu Ibn Abi Thalib Mosque to provide security during Friday prayers.
The police engaged JIBWIS leadership, which disassociated itself from Maradun's actions. He was subsequently apprehended by JIBWIS and handed over to the police for investigation.
Maradun, a native of Maradun LGA, was born on September 15, 2004, and is a recent admission to study Mass Communication at Zamfara State University.
