ZLP Chairman Criticizes Court Ruling on Deregistration

Dan Nwanyanwu, the national chairman of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), responded to a ruling by Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court in Abuja, which ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deregister ZLP along with four other parties, including the African Democratic Congress (ADC). This ruling was based on alleged constitutional breaches related to the parties' participation in the upcoming 2027 general elections.

Nwanyanwu expressed his discontent with the judgment, suggesting it would expose the judiciary's actions and questioned the respect for court hierarchy, as the matter was pending in the Court of Appeal. He noted that the judgment was delivered despite an existing stay order from the appellate court.

The ruling also impacts notable political figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, who are associated with the affected parties.
