Zoning: ‘It backfired’ – Abba Moro reveals why Atiku got PDP ticket in 2023

Senator Abba Moro, the Senate Minority Leader, revealed the reason behind former Vice President Atiku Abubakar securing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential ticket for 2023. During a PDP National Executive Committee meeting in Abuja, the party decided to zone the 2027 presidency to the South, leading to Atiku's nomination as the 2023 candidate.

Moro explained that the decision was deliberate, with the party believing Atiku was the best candidate despite the zoning. By nominating Atiku, PDP aimed to strengthen and position itself as a viable opposition for the 2027 elections.

The zoning issue has been a major point of contention within the party, with figures like former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike advocating for a different approach.
