One Dead, Five Rescued in Enugu Building Collapse

In the early hours of Sunday, a four-storey building under construction in Enugu collapsed, leading to the death of one worker and the rescue of five others. Among those rescued, two were found unconscious and were immediately taken to the hospital for medical care.

Eyewitness reports indicated that the site had previously been raised before the current structure was built, which also collapsed. Most of the individuals trapped were workers at the site.

SP Ndukwe, the police spokesman, did not comment on the incident, but an area commander was reported to have visited the scene. Uche Anya, Chairman of the Enugu Capital Development Authority, confirmed his office's involvement in the rescue efforts and stated that the site had been sealed due to non-compliance with building codes.

Anya noted that the building had been approved in 2021 and emphasized the need for regulatory adherence to prevent such tragedies.
