Building Collapse in Nnewi: No Casualties Reported

A two-storey residential building collapsed at Inyaba-Umudim in Nnewi, located in the Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State, with no casualties reported. Sources indicated that the occupants were not present during the incident and that the structure had previously shown signs of distress.

Barr. Chijioke Ojukwu, the Anambra State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, confirmed the collapse and stated that preliminary findings suggested the building was poorly constructed and erected without the required approval from the ministry.

Ojukwu noted that the structure was built adjacent to the perimeter fence of an existing three-storey building within the same compound. He announced that the occupants of the three-storey building would be evacuated while a mandatory integrity test is conducted.

If the assessment reveals that the structure is unsafe for habitation, it will be demolished.
