Nigerian Startups Tackle Extreme Heat with New Program

Ten early-stage ventures have been selected to participate in the TECA Heat Action Wave program, which is supported by BFA Global, FSD Africa, and the ClimateWorks Foundation, with backing from the UK’s Foreign Commonwealth Development Office. The program targets climate adaptation innovations to address the rising temperatures and their economic impacts in Nigeria.

The selected startups include Ofemini, Global Limit, AgileTech, Oper Consult, Limit, Emplari, Doorca, Africa FarmXic, Farm Fresh Grocery Ltd, and Farmslat Technology Ltd. They will receive $56,000 in funding and technical support for product development, user validation, and business model design.

Tyler Ferdinand, Director at BFA Global, emphasized that extreme heat is becoming a significant operational risk for African economies. The program aims to support ventures that provide climate adaptation solutions, with a focus on food spoilage, livestock loss, and health risks for outdoor workers.

The cohort operates in Lagos, Kaduna, and Edo State, Nigeria.
