Veteran Nollywood Actor Taiwo Hassan 'Ogogo' Dies at 66

Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, a veteran Nollywood actor and filmmaker, died at the age of 66 after a battle with stage-four cancer. His death was confirmed by his daughter, Kira Taiwo, during an emotional Instagram Live session on Sunday.

Born in Ilaro, Ogun State, Ogogo began his acting career in 1981 and gained prominence with his role in the 1996 Yoruba film Owo Blow. He transitioned from a job at the Lagos State Water Corporation to focus on acting in 1994.

Ogogo also appeared in English-language films, including Omo Ghetto and Tenant of the House. His role as Alaafin Ademuyiwa in Kunle Afolayan’s 2022 Netflix film Aníkúlápó introduced him to a new audience and earned him a nomination for Best Supporting Actor at the 2023 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards.

Beyond acting, he was a producer, director, and screenwriter, contributing significantly to Yoruba cultural narratives.
