117 Repentant Terrorists Ready for Community Reintegration

The Nigerian Army announced that 117 repentant terrorists have successfully completed the Federal Government's de-radicalization and rehabilitation program, known as the Operation Safe Corridor (OPSC). This development was revealed during a high-level stakeholder meeting held at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre in Abuja.

Y. Ali, the OPSC coordinator, highlighted the importance of collaboration between federal and state authorities in monitoring the reintegration of these individuals into their communities.

The program, which began in 2016, involves multiple agencies and aims to strengthen screening mechanisms, refine the ideological disengagement process, and enhance psychosocial support. The OPSC has expanded to include facilities in northwestern states, such as a camp established in Zamfara last year, with ongoing discussions to create similar facilities in Benu.

Chief of Defence Staff Jamal Abdusalam emphasized that the program is a key component of Nigeria's security strategy, aimed at stabilizing structures and preventing former insurgents from returning to violence.
