300,000 Terrorists Surrendered, 2,615 Reintegrated in Nigeria

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) announced that approximately 300,000 terrorists have surrendered between 2016 and 2025, attributing this to superior firepower from the Nigerian Armed Forces. Of these, 2,615 individuals have successfully graduated from the Operation Safe Corridor (OPSC) program, which focuses on deradicalization, rehabilitation, and reintegration into society.

Brigadier General Yusuf Ali clarified that while the surrender numbers include women and children, the OPSC program does not admit them, as they are typically assisted by state governments and UNICEF. The program is designed to adapt to changing security realities and has faced criticism regarding its effectiveness.

Additionally, NHRC Executive Secretary Toni Ojukwu condemned the recent violence in Plateau State, describing it as senseless and deeply disturbing. He emphasized the need for the government to take concrete steps to end violence and ensure accountability for perpetrators, while also addressing the root causes of violence, such as poverty and hate speech.
