Senate Excludes Uzodimma from 11th Assembly Leadership Race

The Senate has conducted a closed-door session lasting three hours to amend its rules regarding eligibility for principal offices in the upcoming 11th National Assembly, which will convene in June 2027. The amendments specifically target members such as Uzodimma, Kabiru Marafa, and Adam Oshiomhole, effectively narrowing the scope of eligibility for leadership positions.

The revised Order 4 states that only senators who have served for at least one term of four years, among other criteria, can contest for principal offices. This includes the positions of Senate President, Deputy President, and other leadership roles.

Additionally, the amendments stipulate that senators who are contesting for principal offices must adhere strictly to a ranking order based on their previous positions. The changes aim to limit the eligibility of newer senators and ensure that only those with prior experience in the Senate can vie for these significant roles.
