12-Year-Old Dies After Accidental Shooting in Maiduguri

On Wednesday at 5:30 PM, a tragic incident occurred in Maiduguri, Borno State, where 12-year-old Musa Audu Idrisa was fatally shot by his 8-year-old neighbor, Abubakar Inusa. The young shooter reportedly gained access to a loaded dane gun that was negligently kept unsecured by his father, Inusa Moham, a 45-year-old member of the Nigerian Hunter Group.

Following the incident, Musa was immediately evacuated to a state specialist hospital in Maiduguri, where he was certified dead upon arrival. His body was subsequently released to his family for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.

The police confirmed that the weapon used in the incident was recovered, and an investigation is ongoing to address the negligence of the parents regarding firearm security. The State Criminal Investigation Department is conducting a full inquiry to prevent similar incidents and ensure accountability.
