Amnesty International Demands Probe into Maiduguri Girl's Death

Amnesty International has urged Nigerian authorities to conduct a thorough investigation following the death of a 14-year-old girl in Maiduguri, Borno State, who was killed by a military firearm. The incident occurred on Saturday, April 4, when the secondary school student was struck by a stray bullet while inside her home.

Reports indicate that the bullet was allegedly fired by military personnel who were shooting into the air during a nearby celebration. The girl, who was preparing for a family wedding, was not involved in the celebration and was reportedly indoors at the time of the shooting.

She was buried on Sunday morning in Maiduguri, with friends and family mourning her sudden loss. Amnesty International emphasized the need for accountability and called for a transparent and impartial investigation into the reckless use of firearms, particularly in civilian areas, stressing that anyone found culpable should be brought to justice.
