Parents of Borno pupils threaten protest over abductions

Parents of children abducted in Borno have expressed their frustration after their children have spent over 130 days in captivity, protesting in Askira Uba against the government's perceived inaction. The mass kidnapping occurred on May 15, 2026, involving 44 children from Mussa Ward and 36 from Lassa schools.

Ishaku Suya, the chairman of the parents, made an emotional appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, threatening to take to the streets of the presidential villa if their children are not rescued. Josphin Yohanna, another parent, criticized the government for its swift response to similar abductions in Oyo State, questioning why the same urgency has not been applied to their situation.

Dr. Midala Usman Balami, a member of the House of Representatives for Askira/Uba and Hawul Federal Constituency, condemned the lack of action and noted that he has moved a motion in the National Assembly regarding the issue.
